The +Q Palabras project is an initiative that started with a group of parents of deaf children wanting to improve their quality of life in Equatorial Guinea. Throughout 2012 work was focused on developing a coordinated medical assessment and initial intervention for deaf children in Bata. Over the last 10 years the +Q Palabras project has expanded its interventions into a multi-faceted program that will be able to be replicated throughout the country.
Our goal is to develop a project that is self-sustaining and committed to addressing hearing issues in Guinea. Prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation are the main areas of action. We are implementing protocols for awareness, education, and training of local healthcare providers to support the population with hearing disorders.
Through the agreement with SOS Children’s Villages-Equatorial Guinea, we have been able to leverage their medical facilities to implement joint campaigns to place hearing aids, as well as other specialty auditory interventions.
