Service trip Bata-Bolondo 2009

In 2009, we completed a medical missions project in cooperation with the NGO “Development 2000 in Africa” and the Baptist Mission of Bata. +QS and its donors provided the funding. This project provided the impetus for developing a long-term plan for assisting citizens of Evinayong (Project PISE).

An interdisciplinary team of 12 people, including health care professionals and people representing other professional arenas, participated in this trip. For several weeks prior to our departure, we gathered medical and school supplies to take with us.

During this trip, we focused on two areas:

  • Health Center of Bolondo Health Care Campaign

Each day, after enjoying a time of Bible study, we drove about 40 km outside of Bata. First we delivered medication to the pharmacy, performed maintenance and infrastructure installation work. We attended patients who needed general medical attention and provided dental, gynecological and surgical care. We trained the nursing staff to treat wounds and provide postoperative care. We shared the gospel with patients who wanted to talk with us about it. Our vision for providing holistic care on a physical, emotional and spiritual level is always part of our projects. We also enjoyed playing games and spending time the children who came to the center, which were designed to teach them how to be healthy and take good care of their teeth.

  • Baptist Mission of Bata

During the afternoon, we worked with the Mission offering dental and gynecological consultations and enjoying activities with the kids (balloons, puppets and clowns). We taught computer courses and also provided training for giving lectures about sex education. We also shared the gospel by showing the Jesus Film in Fang, one of the local dialects.

We also attended the Sunday worship service of the Baptist Church of Bata.

Before the trip ended, we visited the health center and church of Engong.
