Over 300 take part in the Más que una Semilla 2017 campaign in Equatorial Guinea

Course I on Plastic and Repair Surgery was the main novelty in the programme, with 8 operations on patients with burn sequelae or keloids.

The success of the conferences has produced a local request to ensure a new edition in 2018.

A total of 303 people, including medical and nursing students, and professionals from some of the most important hospitals in Equatorial Guinea, attended the Más que una Semilla Campaign, carried out by the Más que Salud organization in the country. 19 cooperators from different cities in Spain, such as Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia or Pamplona, prepared and structured this event, which took place between May 5 and 13, through three key axes: Congress IV on Medical and Health Sciences, the Más que Palabras Campaign 2017 and Course I on Plastic and Repair Surgery for surgeons.

Care and training

A salient feature of the conferences on plastic and repair surgery with burn sequelae and keloids was the operations on 8 patients, among others. This care work was accompanied by special training for the local health personnel.

On the other hand, under an agreement with Amplifon, SOS Aldeas Infantiles and Más que Salud, 354 people suffering from different audiological problems were also treated, combined with the parallel training of two doctors and two future Equatorial Guinean hearing aid professionals.

Successful academic commitment in the campaign

The congress, with its motto "in depth research to advance in excellence", included 4 masterly lectures by local lecturers, 12 workshops by the Más que Salud cooperators, up to 55 oral communications and 14 publications by the students who attended. The vice-chancellor of the National University of Equatorial Guinea, Filiberto Ntutumu Nguema Nchema, was in charge of inaugurating the conference, and the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Zoila de la Caridad Fernández Montequín, the Regional Delegate of Health and the Regional Inspector of Education were also present.

This participation caused great expectation in the Equatoguinean media and local academic spheres, which is the reason why Más que Salud has been asked to hold another campaign for 2018.
